Grand Traverse Plastics Is Expanding
Grand Traverse Plastics is investing $11.5 million at its Michigan facility to support EV manufacturing. A $430,000 performance-based award from the Michigan Business Development Program is included in that investment. Northern Michigan won out a competing offer from a location in the Southeastern United States, according to Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer in a news release. The expansion will result in the creation of 43 additional jobs.
The project coincides with the Michigan Economic Development Corp's (MEDC) strategic aim of increasing EV manufacturing in the state, as well as its Industry 4.0 program. By 2025, the plan's strategic aim is to ensure that half of Michigan's small and mid-sized enterprises are ready to implement Industry 4.0 technology. The firm presently employs 130 people and operates 28 injection molding machines across three factories, generating $35 million in revenue annually.

Tooling and Injection Molding Operations Expanding into Vermont and Wisconsin
Nolato GW, previously GW Plastics, recently completed a 3,000 ft2 cleanroom extension for its silicone molding subsidiary, Nolato GW Silicones. Up to 8-10 additional silicone injection molding machines can be housed in this expansion. This is Nolato GW Silicones' fourth expansion since its founding in 2008, and it follows a 30,000-square-foot expansion of the company's Manufacturing and Technology Center in Vermont last year. Simultaneously, Nolato Contour is undertaking a 60,000-square-foot expansion in Baldwin, Wisconsin. This extra cleanroom production and warehousing space will help them expand their diagnostic and pharmaceutical operations. Over the next three years, Nolato Contour aims to hire 75 people.
In addition to injection molding, Nolato also excels in precise LSR and thermoplastic mold design and construction. Their in-house tooling experience enables them to create high-cavitation, fully automated, tight-tolerance LSR and thermoplastic molds with world-class lead times. The firm is one of the most advanced and largest multi-material contract manufacturers in the market thanks to the combined in-house capabilities of Nolato GW, Nolato Contour, and larger Nolato AB.
