Troubleshooting Splay Defects on Injection Molded Products
Splay is one of the more common cosmetic defects on injection molded products. Splay defects are easy to spot; however, correcting the conditions to avoid them can be perplexing. Splay often appears along the surface of the molded part and can be visually characterized as an off-color streak with a silver hue. This defect can often be attributed to three conditions including heat, moisture, and shear, with heat often being the primary culprit. There are many conditions during the injection molding process that one can look out for to avoid temperature related splay defects. These conditions include barrel temperatures, mold temperatures, dryer temperatures, back pressure, over drying, and resonance time. Learn more here.

GDO Mexico Selects Elix Polymers to Supply Chrome Coating Material for Interior Auto Parts

Interior automotive parts supplier Galvanizadora de Occidente (GDO) Mexico selected Elix Polymers as their principal supplier of chrome coating material for injection molded dashboard trim to be used in a premium EV. The selected material is called Elix Ultra HH4115PG, an acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene/polycarbonate (ABS/PC) blend  which features superior impact resistance, higher heat resistance, and higher density than other competing ABS/PC materials. Elix Ultra HH4115PG is a higher quality material and naturally it is somewhat pricier. However, GDO Mexico takes pride in being able to meet even the most stringent OEM part specifications and thus they selected the highest quality material for the dashboard trim finishing. The same material can also be used on other products such as grilles or decorative components and it is one of many in Elixs' large product portfolio. Learn more here.
